How to Install a Video Codec

Video is very popular these days. Not only do people prefer to watch videos rather than read an article but there has also being in increase in demand for internet broadcasting. Many video producers these days have a variety of extensions to produce movies and broadcast in as such the need for video codec. Also to play latest movie file formats or video on a platform one needs the newest and efficient video codec.

In most cases you will have to perform this step if you are using an older version of the Windows operating system so the instructions that follow are for pre-Windows Vista operating systems.

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

2. Select the Windows Setup tab > Sounds and Multimedia> Details.

3. Make sure the Audio Compression and Video Compression check boxes are selected and click OK.


For vista and windows 7 users all you need to do is make sure you have the latest updates. You can do this by visiting http://update.microsoft.com

This should start your automatic update beta known as the pc update tool. This will automatically start your PC's update tool. If you are having trouble with on specific file type or application in particular then you may just need to install a specific video codec for that program or file type. You can download most codec files on line from the brand who offer you your machine the codec.

Codec are essential to playing most media file types on your computer, and in most cases these simple steps will have you enjoying videos in no time.

Once whilst looking for a codec online to play you tube video, i stumbled upon software that has literally helped my when it comes to codec and online video playback. It had support for other codec types such as audio etc. Most of all the after using this pack I did not have to install any other codec again. What I did not like was it was too small in size(compared to the features).

This made me doubt, but I wasn’t disappointed. I got to play my youtube video most of all I don’t need to search for new video codec again since all I have to do is update. Additionally you can also use it as a codec pack to playback video files on your hard drive.
